Title: seeing patterns of behaviour that suggest that my partner has BPD.
Post by: as on February 05, 2018, 12:06:46 PM
Hi,

I have been in a relationship for just over 1.5 years and I am now seeing patterns of behaviour that suggest that my partner has BPD (high-functioning). I have recently read about BPD and would like to improve the relationship.

Welcome as, *welcome*

I'm sorry you've been having difficulties in your relationship. Could you share a little more about what has been going on? What patterns are you seeing?

Hello,

I recently broke up with my significant other and also thought things weren't right or adding up. How could someone who just the day before was trying to make plans to go to Niagra Falls just up and proclaim that they were done with the relationship? I found a book called "stop walking on eggshells", that was co-authored by a psychologist, and it has definitely opened my eyes to things about her and the relationship. Obviously a diagnosis cannot be made until verified by a therapist; however, you can look for the signs and make note of them as they occur and if by any chance you have a chance to talk to a therapist or get them to go to one you can show them the documentation of the episodes. In the book, it also talks about communication advice and such. I would recommend you pick it up somewhere if you can, discretely as it may send the other person into a rage, and try to educate yourself further. I have scheduled talks with therapist friends and such to try and figure this and my research out. Best of luck to you, and I just picked up a book called "Loving Someone with Borderline Personality Disorder" by Shari Manning PhD. When I have read it I will let you know how it is.

Hey AS, want to talk more specifically about the patterns of behavior you're seeing?

We won't be able to give you advice unless we're a bit more informed about your situation.

Hang in there!
