Title: Driving and BPD
Post by: MomaJ on February 19, 2018, 08:53:54 AM
I was researching the question about why persons with BPD would be listed with reckless driving.
I saw some articles on aggressive driving and impulsivity but I was looking for a different form of reckless driving; inattention, not aware of surroundings, running through red lights, driving noticeably slow as if not to know what the speed limit is, not using turn signals and unaware of navigating, playing with the phone while driving with the whole family in the car, even when told multiple times not to use phone while driving he needs to be reminded almost every time he drives.  Blaming the other guy when he cuts a truck driver off... .
Unintentional lying. Is that possible?  Make things up to make the other person look bad. Wanting to be helpful but the minute he starts helping the other person he starts getting irritated. Changes information to fit what he needs. Doesn't pay attention to important things his daughter needs and needs to be reminded multiple times for something important.

Hi MomaJ

Welcome aboard!

Here is a quote from one of our online posts:

Excerpt
In addition, people with BPD often engage in impulsive and risky behavior. This behavior often winds up hurting them, whether emotionally, financially or physically. For instance, they may drive recklessly, engage in unsafe sex, take illicit drugs or go on spending or gambling sprees. People with BPD also often engage in suicidal behavior or deliberately injure themselves for emotional relief.

What relation is this person to you and is he diagnosed with BPD? What's the rest of the story?

Hello, MomaJ:

I just want to join the others in welcoming you to the forum. I'm sorry for what you're going through but glad you have found a community where many of us have been through similar experiences, and we can learn from each other. We help and support each other here, and it helps to know that you are far from alone.

Like the others have said, when you can, give us more of a backstory, so we can know best how to support you.

So... .welcome! I believe you will be greatly comforted by the support here and the fact that we really understand what you are going through. We've all been there to varying degrees. Take care of yourself. We will look out for future posts from you.
