Title: I freeze up. I get mush mouth
Post by: Rootsbreach on February 28, 2018, 07:10:53 PM
Hi everyone. I am a bipolar ii with a borderline boyfriend. A fabulous recipe, I am aware. I go to therapy every 2 weeks and I take daily medications prescribed by an elite psychiatrist. My partner on the other hand does neither.

I consider myself stable yet susceptible to triggers.  Even when I'm feeling the most stable, I can't help but let his borderline tendencies/traits throw me off. I'm even more thrown simply thinking about my reactions. I freeze up. I get mush mouth. Because I am always anticipating his response. Will he be personally offended? Will he stop talking to me for days? Will he get angry?

All the while I'm trying to concentrate on myself. Staying in the moment. Avoiding spiraling. Does anyone find themselves in a similar situation?

Hi Rootbreach,

Welcome *welcome*

I"m sorry that you are feeling like you are walking on egg shells quite often. Although I don't know what it's like to maneuver through a BPD relationship with a diagnosis of my own, the experiences you described sound very similar to what I have experienced with my H.

Does your bf have anything in particular that tends to trigger him?

Hi Rootsbreach. Welcome

Yes. I find myself there all the time. It's something I'm working on myself and it's very common.

I'm learning some simple techniques around breathing which help me get control of my physiology. The age old cliche of "take a deep breath" has wisdom in it. In fact I take 7 deep, rhythmic and smooth breaths and it helps me get grounded.

When our mouth goes dry it's often a sign of anxiety. Is that your experience?
