Title: My child’s narcissistic father abandoned him
Post by: Caliyogi on March 22, 2018, 07:00:19 PM
My sons father is a narcissist who abandoned him after a setback in court three years ago. I’m just curious, does anyone know what the long-term might look like? Has anyone experienced this before and had the parent return?

We have had members here where the abandoning parent shows up.  What's your legal custody situation? How old is your son and does he ask questions?

Hi Caliyogi,

I'm sorry your son has to feel the sting of abandonment  That is tough to witness, too, as a parent. How old is your son? Does he express how he feels about his dad's abandonment?

Exact same thing happened in our case, too.

My ex (who my T suspects has both a fear of abandonment and a fear of inferiority, so BPD/NPD), did the same thing 3-4 years ago. I was eventually awarded full custody. n/BPDx pretty much disappeared from S16's life.

n/BPDx does not communicate with me at all, although apparently he texts S16 from time to time. Usually, it's something self-centered about n/BPDx.

S16 chooses to not respond for now. He said if his dad asked him a question or seemed interested in his life, maybe. But there is never a question, and no genuine interest in how S16 is doing.

Is your son receiving any counseling?
