Title: my son has a new diagnosis of /BPD Post by: Barbiedoll on March 31, 2018, 02:57:58 PM I have a son who is 45 years old. He always has been diagnosed with ADHD but recently he became very depresed over his relationships with other people going south. He has had psychatric help all his life excet for the past several years. He recently tried to kill himself we took him into the Er and they kept him for a few days. He has never been able to hold down a job either becoming very stressed out by the work and thinking people didn't like him. now after this hospitolization they gave him a new dignosis of BPD. After looking up the sign and symptoms of BPD I realized he certainly fits the criteria for this. now a couple of days ago he sat across the table from me with a knife threating to slash his wrist because he had a couple of people say something about him. We took him into the mental health unit again and they said to take him to an adult day care center where he can get more intense help and come home at night. Before after hospitalization he was going to a group and seeing a psycologst every 2 weeks. What do you all think of these Adult day care center. the one here would keep him for 5 or 6 hours and from what I read there are drug addicts there and children there. Do any of you knowif these things are any good?

*welcome* I’d like to welcome you to bpdfamily. I’m sorry to hear. What a distressing situation to be in when your son is SI. I’m glad that you decided to join us it helps to talk to others that are in similar situations as you that can offer you guidance and support you’re not alone. BPD usually has an underlying clinical depression and can be comorbid with anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, and other personality disorders. I can’t speak to your question about the adult day care center. I’m sure that someone will come shortly with an answer. In the meantime I’d like to point out the lessons on the right side of the board and your welcome to check out other discussions on this board. It helps to read other posts you’ll find a lot of similarities. Title: Re: my son has a new diagnosis of /BPD Post by: Feeling Better on April 02, 2018, 04:43:28 PM Hello Barbiedoll
I would like to join Mutt in welcoming you here, I’m sorry to hear of the problems that you are having with your son. I personally don’t have any experience with day care centers, maybe others here might be able to offer you some insight. Before after hospitalization he was going to a group and seeing a psycologst every 2 weeks. Is going to a group and seeing a psychologist still an option for your son, or has that finished now?Title: Re: my son has a new diagnosis of /BPD Post by: Mutt on April 04, 2018, 08:17:05 AM the one here would keep him for 5 or 6 hours and from what I read there are drug addicts there and children there.
