Title: My son is in another world, and I cannot reach him.
Post by: Laliqbaila on April 08, 2018, 04:21:36 PM
    Everyone,
My adult son is suffering from BPD. I am attending a NAMI class for family, reading "The Essential Family Guide... ." and DBT workbook to try to communicate better. It feels like he is in another world and I cannot reach him, yet he tells me he needs me, then every conversation degrades into hours of ranting that everything going wrong in his life is my fault. Over and over.

Hello! Wow good for you to already be attending the NAMI class!  I'm still not sure which one to attend.  I'm sorry you must be so tired and frustrated feeling unable to reach him.

Hope you post more, hope you come to discover as I have that this is a safe place to express whatever is on your mind or in your heart.

Welcome.  :)

Hi Laliqbaila,

Welcome to this place. What you said "I feel like he is in another worls and I cannot reach him" hits me in the heart. I'm right there with you. I feel like my daughter lives her life in a different world too. Sometimes it's like I'm right there, I can almost touch her hand, reaach her, and then she drifts away. You will learn much here. You will hear from so many parents who are here like you looking for answers. Keep posting.

Welcome, Laliqbaila!

 *welcome*

I'd like to join the others in welcoming you to the discussion forums. From what you've written, you and I (and many others here) have a lot in common. First, we have the "light bulb" moment when we first find out about BPD - and it explains so much. Then, we reach out to others for support, as you have. So, welcome, you're in the right place.

Thank you for sharing with us what you have thus far:

It feels like he is in another world and I cannot reach him, yet he tells me he needs me, then every conversation degrades into hours of ranting that everything going wrong in his life is my fault. Over and over.

I hear you. This sounds incredibly tiresome and frustrating. What do you do or say to your son when he goes off on a rant? Does anything help? What makes the situation worse?

Please let us know how best to support you. Keep us posted on how things are going for you.

Hang in there.

Keep writing, keep processing, keep learning.
