Title: I saw my counsellor today
Post by: MeandThee29 on May 15, 2018, 06:23:45 PM
She announced that she is leaving the group she's with and is starting a non-profit where she will be counselling women in shelters and in jail. She is taking her client list and is configuring it so that she will still be available for counselling on the side if you have seen her previously. Such an amazing opportunity for her.

She has a wonderful gift and will be doing what she loves. She turned my life around.

That's great that you are able to stay with her.  What wisdom did she impart to you to enable you to turn your life around, if you can summarize it?

Probably the biggest was that I have inherent worth. I've made a lot of mistakes and have some weaknesses, but I still have something to offer. Also in there was learning about all of the negative self-talk I gave myself. I learned to assess myself reasonably and fairly, not being arrogant or proud about it.

I had a narcissistic mother and married someone with high functioning BPD. Now, decades later, I see all of that for what it was. I never consistently had a close family relationship based on love and acceptance.

I am becoming an emotionally healthy person for the first time in my life!

Great news, MeandThee! Isn’t it wonderful to have a support person committed to being there for you.
