Title: I love my mother but don’t ever want to be around her.
Post by: CeliaSun on May 20, 2018, 10:30:02 PM
Hello,
I am looking for support.  I am a young adult and I'm really struggling with tremendous guilt when my mother has mood swings. I am trying to move on and become my own person.  My mother has also had a suicide attempt and I still feel partially responsible because I was avoiding her for awhile.  It is difficult because I love my mother but I don't ever want to be around her.

Hi CeliaSun,

I'm glad that you reached out to us for support.

*welcome*

Many of us feel similarly to the way that you do. It's hard to reconcile loving someone while also needing to protect ourselves when they cause us pain.

It sounds like you are not living with her,  yes? A suicide attempt sounds scary. Who else does she have in her life for support?

Hi CeliaSun.  How are you today?

Can you tell us a bit more about your situation so we can know how to best support you?  You mentioned wanting to be your own person.  Have you decided what your first step should be?  It's okay if you haven't or even if you haven't a clue where to start though.  We can still support and encourage you and even help you figure things out.

I'll be looking forward to hearing from you again.

I live with my mother part time because I am still in college.  I do have siblings and other family that try to support her but she tends to push everyone away.  I am planning on trying to get my own place when I graduate but am concerned about affording it.  The thought of living in the house again for more than a week or two makes me feel sick.
