Title: Support group for person with BPD
Post by: Conflictedlover on June 09, 2018, 12:15:46 PM
Hello, I was talking to my SO who has BPD and she seems to be really struggling with the fact that no one understands completely what she is going through in her head everyday. I was wondering if there was a support group kinda like this one but for people with BPD who are trying to get better and accept what is going on with them.

Any help welcome.

We refer anyone suffering with BPD themselves (who are not in a r/s with someone who has BPD that they need support with) to the following resources:

10 best websites for BPD (http://www.bpdresources.net/)

PsychCentral (https://forums.psychcentral.com/borderline-personality-disorder/)

BPD Beautiful (https://www.facebook.com/groups/549518988715582/) (on Facebook)

Psych Forums (http://www.psychforums.com/borderline-personality/)

Hope that helps.

Love and light x

Apologies - the Psych Central link was broken.  I've fixed it now, in case you'd already tried it.

Awesome thank you, I’ll definitely pass those along to my girlfriend.

You're welcome. Now that you've sought out something to help your gf, in what way can you also do something to help yourself? Looking after yourself is vitally important. What are you doing on that front?  Is there something you can add or improve upon?

Probably. Reaching out to this support group was a good step for me. Being able to talk to people who are going through something similar has been really helpful. I also value my alone time when I get it. And I write my feelings. Sometimes getting them on paper always seems to help, like a release.

That's great.  I found writing really valuable too.  I'd encourage you to view these things as first steps and then aim to build upon that, whilst protecting the time for that and maintaining a boundary on yourself to continue doing what helps you.

It can be very easy to gradually let things go and to lose momentum in self care (as so many of us know from experience) and if I were to be asked above all else what would be the one thing I'd go back and change, it would be this.  Keeping up your interests and connection with others will bring balance and allow you to take the lead as the emotionally healthy person who is living life in a positive way for both of you to benefit from.  We must look after ourselves before we can truly be in a position to support others.

Keep posting and reading here.  I felt very isolated with my situation until I found this place and discovered that joining others' discussions was like a goldmine of experience and insight.  I'm glad you found us.
