Title: Looking for coping strategies
Post by: Mama Mimi on July 06, 2018, 03:00:59 PM
Hi,
I am currently reading Stop Walking on theEggshells. I would like to have a more honest relationship with my daughter.  That is my fantasy. What I need are coping strategies so I can stay afloat and be more grounded.  Right now she is visiting for several weeks with my only grandchildren, aged 10 and 5.
I am new to this, so I will begin by reading the tools and the lessons.
Thanks for being here.

Hello Mama Mimi

I would like to welcome you here, you are definitely in the right place!

I would like to have a more honest relationship with my daughter.  That is my fantasy.

I love that “That is my fantasy”, you obviously still have a sense of humour. I’m sure just about everybody here shares your fantasy about their son/daughter, I know I do.

Coping strategies, well I would say you’ve already got one - your sense of humour. I would also say that the best way of coping is to take care of yourself, remember that you matter, your feelings matter and self care should be of the utmost importance. A good support system will help you to cope too, and that is where we all come in. There are lots of parents here willing to share, help and support.

It sounds like you are already making a good start by reading the tools and lessons, the first three listed under tools are really good communication tools.

Hope to hear more from you x

Hello Mama Mimi

I join Feeling Better welcoming you, I'm glad you've come to talk with us here, you are not alone.

It can be confusing understanding what's happening and why. You want a more honest relationship with your daughter, can you share with us what's happening, what behaviours you are dealing with?
