Title: New to the group Post by: Hopeful girl on July 21, 2018, 04:09:51 PM Hello
I am a 52 y/o female looking for support from being raised by a narcissistic mother. Title: Re: New to the group Post by: Harri on July 21, 2018, 05:58:40 PM Hi Hopeful Girl and welcome to the board. You are in the right spot to talk with others who have had a parent or family member with a mental disorder. You are not alone.
I am also 52 and had a mother with a disorder. I am still sorting out some of the abusive incidents but am mostly working on me and trying to heal. When you cam , give us a few more details. In the meantime, look around and read and post to other peoples threads. You might also want to look over on the right side of the page where you will see a Survivor's Guide. Each items expands when you click on it. Sometimes it helps to look at the steps and figure out where you are. You might find yourself at more than just one place too. We are all very supportive of each other here so I hope you settle in and explore a bit. Title: Re: New to the group Post by: Woolspinner2000 on July 21, 2018, 06:31:57 PM Hi Hopeful girl,
So glad you've found us. I'm 55, so I beat both you and Harri! :) My uBPDm was not only BPD but also quite N. Tough combo to deal with. Have you read any helpful books yet about the disorders? We have a lot of information about both BPD and NPD because of how they go hand in hand. Looking forward to hearing more from you! Wools Title: Re: New to the group Post by: Learning2Thrive on July 21, 2018, 10:05:50 PM Hey there, Hopeful girl
I want to join Harri and Woolsin welcoming you. I’m a smidge older than you and Harri at 53; Wools is still the winner. My mother was not officially diagnosed NPD as far as I know. But she ticks off all the criteria and leans toward sociopathic as her delight in causing others to suffer is blatantly clear... .if only you pay close attention. I definitely understand your need for support and want to confirm that you’ve come to the right place. We’re here to listen, support and offer resources and proven tools to help you. When you have a moment, let us know what you’d most like help with. Are you currently in contact with your mum? What kind of relationship would you like to have with her? Sending you gentle hugs and smiles. Things really can get better. I look forward to learning more about you and how we may be able to move forward to a brighter future. Young 37 year old parrot joining the other board animals in welcoming you here :) Having a disordered parent and/or being raised by one, can be quite difficult. You describe her as narcissistic, how was this reflected in her behavior? What do/did you consider her most difficult behaviors to deal with? Being raised by a disordered parent can definitely affect people long into their adult lives. Are there any issues in particular that you would like to get support for? Take care The Board Parrot Title: Re: New to the group Post by: zachira on July 22, 2018, 08:51:21 AM I am joining the others in welcoming you to this Board and website. Can you tell us a little more about your mother and how her narcissism is affecting you now and how it has affected you in the past? I was raised by a mother with BPD and NPD so I know the sadness and frustration in dealing with a mother that has no empathy or ability to see her children as separate people from her. There are many people on this Board who have narcissistic mothers and participate on this site to help others in similar situations. We are here to listen and support you. Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing.
