Title: What now? He has BPD and is a sex addict
Post by: Sweet Tea on July 22, 2018, 10:07:04 PM
Hello! I don't know where to begin. So I'll just dive in! I'm married to someone who has BPD and is also a sex addict. Lucky me, right? I honestly have no idea what to do, where to turn for help, or what help is even available. I would sure appreciate any and all advice. Thank you for listening.

Hi SweetTea,

*welcome*

Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit lost and uncertain. These are very serious challenges we face here and it does take time to get our bearings!

Can you please describe your relationship in more detail? How long have you been married? What BPD traits does he have? Can you discuss his sex addiction? How is it affecting you and the relationship?

wishing you peace, pearl.

Welcome to BPD family. You have come to the right place, as we are here to listen and support you. Could you tell us a little more about why you think you husband is a sex addict and what kind of BPD behaviors he exhibits?
There are basically two schools of though on sex addiction. Some like Patrick Carnes believe in sex addiction. Others say there is no such thing as sex addiction, and call the type of behaviors exhibited by so called sex addicts "out of control sexual behaviors".
I recommend that you google Doug Braun Harvey and Michael Vigorito who are therapists and published authors and experts on what they call "out of control sexual behaviors". Whatever the terminology used to define your husband's sexual behaviors, it is terribly painful to have a husband that is behaving sexually in appropriate and hurtful ways.
Keep us posted on how you are doing and let us know how we can be the most helpful.
