Title: Devil's Food: Song recommendation for when you doubt reality Post by: Educated_Guess on August 27, 2018, 05:34:17 PM I'm here with another music post. I ran across this song today from Nashville-based, husband and wife duo Fleming & John. It could certainly be written for any non in a BPD/NPD relationship.
It's hard to pick a musical genre for this little gem. I would describe it as what would happen if Led Zeppelin had a baby with a mariachi band and that baby grew up to be an operatic soprano. It's a pretty fun, upbeat song for being about abuse and manipulation... .if you can imagine such a thing. https://youtu.be/ygppFz8LuvI (https://youtu.be/ygppFz8LuvI) Devil's Food He's got his finger on the trigger It's not a gun, it's something bigger Oh, emotional warfare has been declared on you See how he manipulates, berates you and humiliates? He wants you to see what it feels like to be him Oh, that's not love pumping through his veins You're like the sun shining on his shade He's a parasite and he's trying to suck the life out of you Why are you taking up for him? No, you can't save him from his sin Oh, he's pulling you down He's gonna wrestle you into the ground He'll make a mess out of you He'll turn you into devil's food Get away while there's time Your friends are making bets on your life Oh, that's not love pumping through his veins You're like the sun shining on his shade He's a parasite and he's trying to suck the life out of you You're devil's food Go, go, go Go, go, go Girl, run run for your life Oh, that's not love pumping through his veins You're like the sun shining on his shade He's a parasite and he's trying to suck the life Oh, that's not love pumping through his veins You're like the sun shining on his shade Oh, you're parading on his rain You gotta go, you gotta get away He's a parasite and he's trying to suck the life out of you You're devil's food I'm just saying this cause I love you I highlighted a few lines that I like. I really like the line He wants you to see what it feels like to be him. It is a perfect description of the devalue/discard cycle. So when you are doubting your reality, when you feel compelled to reach out to your ex - just jam to this song a few times. Keep on being the sun shining on the shade. Keep on parading on the rain. I'm just saying this because I love y'all! As I was listening to my iPod I came across this one and I started to cry: Love the Way You Lie Just gonna stand there And watch me burn But that's alright Because I like The way it hurts I can't tell you what it really is I can only tell you what it feels like And right now it's a steel knife In my windpipe I can't breathe But I still fight While I can fight As long as the wrong feels right It's like I'm in flight High off of love Drunk from my hate It's like I'm huffing paint And I love it the more that I suffer I suffocate And right before I'm about to drown She resuscitates me She f***ing hates me And I love it Wait Where you going I'm leaving you No you ain't Come back We're running right back Here we go again It's so insane Cause when it's going good It's going great I'm Superman With the wind at his back She's Lois Lane But when it's bad It's awful I feel so ashamed I snapped Who's that dude I don't even know his name I laid hands on her I'll never stoop so low again I guess I don't know my own strength You ever love somebody so much You can barely breathe When you're with them You meet And neither one of you Even know what hit 'em Got that warm fuzzy feeling Yeah them chills Used to get 'em Now you're getting f***ing sick Of looking at 'em You swore you've never hit 'em Never do nothing to hurt 'em Now you're in each others face Spewing venom And these words When you spit 'em You push Pull each other's hair Scratch, claw, bit 'em Throw 'em down Pin 'em So lost in the moments When you're in 'em It's the rage that's the culprit It controls you both So they say it's best To go your separate ways Guess that they don't know ya Cause today That was yesterday Yesterday is over It's a different day Sound like broken records Playin' over But you promised her Next time you'll show restraint You don't get another chance Life is no Nintendo game But you lied again Now you get to watch her leave Out the window Guess that's why they call it window pane Just gonna stand there And watch me burn But that's alright Because I like The way it hurts Now I know we said things Did things That we didn't mean And we fall back Into the same patterns Same routine But your temper's just as bad As mine is You're the same as me But when it comes to love You're just as blinded Baby please come back It wasn't you Baby it was me Maybe our relationship Isn't as crazy as it seems Maybe that's what happens When a tornado meets a volcano All I know is I love you too much To walk away now Come inside Pick up your bags off the sidewalk Don't you hear sincerity In my voice when I talk Told you this is my fault Look me in the eyeball Next time I'm pissed I'll aim my fist At the dry wall Next time There will be no next time I apologize Even though I know it's lies I'm tired of the games I just want her back I know I'm a liar If she ever tries to f***ing leave again I'm a tie her to the bed And set this house on fire Just gonna stand there And watch me burn But that's alright Because I like The way it hurts Just gonna stand there And hear me cry But that's alright Because I love The way you lie I love the way you lie Title: Re: Devil's Food: Song recommendation for when you doubt reality Post by: SamwizeGamgee on August 28, 2018, 09:52:38 PM I prefer the Skylar Grey Love the Way You Lie. I think you’re quoting the Eminem version which has the male and female roles in abuse. The Grey version is just her as a victim, with a touch of codependent.
All good though. Sometimes it takes music to shortcut through all the academic words describing abuse. Thanks for sharing. It's a good one. It really describes that kind of love that's really 9/10ths hate and addiction. I like how he worked "push pull" into the lyrics. Maybe's he's been reading up on BPD!

The said songs ended up me having tremendous "triggers => anger => run faster with my dog => more calories burned." Always looking for the bright side. |
