Title: Movies about narcissistic abuse Post by: JNChell on September 22, 2018, 02:48:50 PM The “Jason Bourne” movies are clearly about a person trying to escape from narcissistic abuse. Psychopathy. I’ve watched “Jason Bourne” today. I’ve also seen the movies before this one.
Have any of you seen movies that reflect what you’ve been through? Metaphors are important with this subject matter. Sally just couldn't live up to Betty's expectations and Betty preferred the brothers to Sally.
That one was tame. This one is closer to some of the dysregulations. I didn't see this movie- don't think I could sit through it , but the clips on youtube are enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0FNSuJ437w Title: Re: Movies about narcissistic abuse Post by: Star0009 on September 22, 2018, 06:10:25 PM I finally watched Mommy Dearest by chance a few months ago. I think I blocked out what happened but it was weird. My uBPD Mom used to reference this when she would act crazy around my younger sister when she was a kid my sister would tell me after I moved out. She used to go around saying "I'm not Mommy dearest". My uBPD future mother in law also referenced it about herself to her grown son recently we both freaked out later because he knew the story about my Mom saying this when she was being abusive. creepy. I know lots of movies about abuse and crazy families but not narcissists or BPD per say. I love the film Tarnation where a son documents his Mom's mental illness and confusion over his own mentality.

It is too long since I saw that movie and I don't really want to re-watch it but I'll take her word for it. Lots of mind games, abuse and mental torment.
Not movie but the Tennessee Williams play 'Glass menagerie' always struck a chord. I remember reading it in 8th grade and feeling like Laura Wingfield in terms of having no independence and living in an imaginary world. And yes she LOVED the movie and the book... .made me watch it with her so many times.
We were all just background characters and friendly fire casualties in her delusional fantasy life. (Geez, I miss the vomit emoji!)
