Title: How To Separate Moral Failure From Mental Illness Post by: ConfusedDotNet on September 22, 2018, 08:40:25 PM I'm confused as to what are character issues/moral failure vs. mental/emotional illness
Title: Re: How To Separate Moral Failure From Mental Illness Post by: Turkish on September 22, 2018, 10:47:45 PM What kinds of character issues or moral failures are you thinking of?
In Understanding The Borderline Mother, the author states, for a borderline, lying feels like survival. My ex lied to me when she was having an affair. Yet she excused her behaviors because of her "sickness." Her word. My mother with BPD (and other things) bore false witness against me by making accusations of criminal elder abuse, yet in her mind they were real. None of these things made them less painful, and dangerous to me on the latter case, even if mental illnesses provided some explanation. Is this what you are struggling with? Accountability? I would like to join Turkish in welcoming you here Could you tell us a bit more about the issues you see that are causing you some confusion? How long have these issues been present? Do you have a child with BPD and if you do, how old is your child? The Board Parrot |
