Title: New to BPD, my 21yr son recently told me he thinks he has BPD
Post by: Chukkee on October 23, 2018, 09:08:15 AM
Hi. My 21 yo son has recently told me he thinks he has BPD. He had been diagnosed with inattentive ADD when he was 15. After reading about BPD I agree it sounds like him. He will get some psych testing soon to confirm.
I guess I need to know how and where to start my new journey of setting new boundaries with him. He is at college, just got arrested for taking 4 xanax and driving-speeding. Thank you

Hello Chukkee and welcome to BPD Family  :hi:

You have come to the right place to learn all about BPD and setting new boundaries with your son. If you haven't already done so, I recommend clicking the links on the right side of the boards - there's a wealth of information there to get you started. It's also helpful to read posts from other parents and to post about your situation to get support. I'm so grateful I've found this place!

How does your son feel about the diagnosis? My DD25 accepts it, embraces it even. At this moment, she's not taking any steps to manage her personality disorder so her life is chaotic. I'm learning that I must take care of myself as the number one priority and I encourage you to do the same.

This place is full of supportive parents who understand. I'm glad you found us.
