Title: Do people with BPD have different personalities Post by: radoe on February 27, 2019, 01:52:10 PM My BPD partner say there are 13 compartmentalized selves or parts of her that feel totally her at the moment.
She sees 7 or 8 different version of me. Is this pretty typical? Title: Re: Do people with BPD have different personalities Post by: itsmeSnap on February 27, 2019, 04:19:29 PM I've heard of splitting (good side and bad side, that makes just 2) but not 13, maybe not that typical?
Anyway, what happened that she mentioned it? Title: Re: Do people with BPD have different personalities Post by: radoe on March 04, 2019, 07:59:16 AM We were talking about what is going on at the psychologist.
Title: Re: Do people with BPD have different personalities Post by: Ozzie101 on March 04, 2019, 08:05:32 AM Sounds odd to me. Like itsmeSnap, I've heard of splitting in 2 but not 7, 8, 13. Is this something she realized on her own or something her P suggested or pointed out?
Title: Re: Do people with BPD have different personalities Post by: Purplex on March 04, 2019, 01:18:40 PM This sounds like a severe manifestation of dissociation. Dissociation can be a symptome of BPD (amongst other things). How long has she known about those other selves? Are those selves distinct from another (different feelings, behavior, thinking, memory, etc.)?
Title: Re: Do people with BPD have different personalities Post by: itsmeSnap on March 04, 2019, 06:33:39 PM Excerpt We were talking about what is going on at the psychologist. Was it casual? surprised or ?It's not impossible for it to be another mental health issue that just happened to present itself along with BPD. Also, its interesting that you said "parts of her that feel totally her at the moment.", and not different entirely. Anyway, we all have "personas", images of ourselves we have. like I might not behave exactly the same at work, at church, or at a family gathering, but I understand that they are all "totally me", and can for example let go of my "professional self" at a party, hope that makes sense? Anyway, details on this one would be very important to help you figure out if it is a "compartmentalization" sort of like I mentioned last paragraph or something else entirely. My partner says she has felt the dissociation going back as far as she can remember. She thinks something bad happened to her. Title: Re: Do people with BPD have different personalities Post by: HubbyofBPD on March 29, 2019, 02:50:43 PM My wife calls them "personas" but she (I think) only has one other one. There's the side she shows to me, vulnerable, sweet, loving, caring, and then sometimes there's the persona, I call her "Carmen" who's tough, wild, party girl, doesn't care about anyone else, etc. Sometimes I see "Carmen" come out when she's around long time friends or people she wants to impress, co workers, etc.
