Title: Getting son to comply with therapist
Post by: Shereads on March 06, 2019, 01:55:42 PM
What can I do to encourage my adult son to follow his therapist’s recommendations for self-care?

Hi Shereads:
A person has to be ready for self-care and want to do it.  The only power you have is to set boundaries (for things you control).  If he is living in your home, or you are helping him with finances, you can require that he complies with self-care stipulations.  If he is abusive, you can set boundaries regarding contact (where & how often).

It could be helpful for you to share more of your story when you are ready.

Hi Shereads

I join No-one welcome to bpdfamily.  :hi:

What kind of recommendations is the therapist suggesting? Sometimes it can take time and small steps as it has for my 30DD, addressing underlying issues. How old is your son? Glad to hear he is in therapy.
