Title: Trying to overcome codependent/ caretaker behaviors
Post by: RedFoxPaw on April 01, 2019, 04:59:06 PM
Hi - I’ve been in therapy for a while but only recently come to understand that my mother is a pwBPD with narcissistic traits also. I’m grown and out of the home but facing complicated caregiver issues. My sister and friend also exhibit traits and I’m trying to overcome codependent/ caretaker behaviors and improve my self esteem. Currently working on boundary setting. Looking forward to joining the community,
Red

Hi Red and welcome!  I am glad you found us and decided to post.

Can you tell us more about your situation and what sort of co-dependent behaviors you want to work on?  How do they show up in your relationships?

We talk a lot about boundaries here so we can help with that for sure.  What sort of boundaries are you trying to set?  Can you give an example?

Sorry for all the questions.    I hope you feel free to settle in, read and jump into other threads.  We all help and support each other so yu are in a good place to learn and work on things.

*welcome*

Hey RedFoxPaw,

Sounds like you’ve got a sense of what BPD is about, welcome to the forum. What sorts of things are you doing to build your self esteem ? I was told to list my best attributes and the say them allowed to myself whilst looking in the mirror. Felt daft, but it worked well.

What boundaries do you think would be helpful ?  :hi:

What would you say are your caretaker behaviors and how is this affecting you?
