Title: Need help in finding Psychologists specializing in BPD in central Florida Post by: Rayoflight7 on April 07, 2019, 11:13:42 PM Hello,
we need an excellent Psychologist in the Orlando Florida area to re-evaluate my sister, who I'm pretty sure has BPD. And if not BPD, perhaps another personality disorder. I have been all over the web and it's incredibly difficult to find a Psychologist who specializes in personality disorders here in Florida...My sister has been mentally ill for over 40 years and I believe she has been misdiagnosed all these years. Very sad situation. Please reach out to me if you know of a good one, even if this person practices outside of Orlando, because over the last 5 months she has had to go back into the Psych hospital 3 times due to suicidal ideations and our family is completely supportive of getting her the best care possible. Thank you. I would love to give you the answer you want, but only a Psychiatrist’s diagnosis would be accepted here in the UK. A Psychologist may have a view, but they would typically refer as their diagnosis wouldn’t be accepted by insurances or NHS or government bodies. My guess is even if they do diagnose in Florida, your insurance company would still insist on a this being ratified by a Psychiatrist.
Not sure if that helps you, but as you’ve not had a response as yet. Its worth noting that to diagnose, you need to know not just about BPD, but also all the other permutations it might be, including physical health cenarios. I would be wary of a Psychologist dishing out diagnoses. I would check with their professional body approves them doing that, and also check they are insured to do so. Best of luck thought. It is very sad that your sister struggles with suicidal ideation. Did anything change in the last 5 months that you believe might have triggered her suicidal ideation or did this kind of come out of the blue? Have you perhaps tried the psychology today website in your search to get your sister the help she needs: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists You seem quite certain that your sister has BPD (or perhaps another PD). You've mentioned her suicidal ideation, what are the other main traits or behaviors you see in her that lead you to the (B)PD conclusion? I believe it is still in the Shands medical complex.
