Title: At our end teen daughter with BPD Post by: CLewis on April 08, 2019, 10:49:01 AM I am really at my end. My daughter was diagnosed with BPD about a year ago. We spent last summer in and out of mental facilities 4 times, because of threats of suicide. In late October she stole my mothers car and made it from Michigan to Missouri. She was only 15 at the time. I had to go get her or I would be charged with abandonment. I had to scream at the local police to arrest her, (we live in the Metro Detroit area), stealing a car is not a high priority. She spent 3 1/2 months in the youth center. She is now back there because of her second assault on me. The first one was last year at this time.
I just do not know what to do. When she came home we told her we were giving her a fresh start for all of us and less than 2 months later we are right back in the same old place. I even contacted an attorney to see if I can dissolve my parental rights. Guess what nope, but her biological father can walk away. I have read books, I have consulted the therapist, I have tried everything, it feels like this is getting worse and her lying is repeating and just getting more refined. I just don't know what to do next. We cannot keep this up for the next 22 months. Title: Re: At our end teen daughter with BPD Post by: livednlearned on April 08, 2019, 01:19:43 PM CLewis,
That's a lot to go through, the violent assaults and her attempts to take her life. You must be exhausted and I can understand why you feel at the end of your rope. How long do you expect the youth center will keep her? And when you say youth center, do you mean a juvenile detention center? It sounds like there are little to no resources there to deal with the underlying disorder? Does your daughter accept her BPD diagnosis? Her biological father appears to be washing his hands of responsibility, putting even more on your's. Do you have a partner who is soldiering through this with you? And when she was in the mental health facility, did they seem to have a grip on how to help a teen with BPD? (Apologies for peppering you with so many questions!). Welcome to the group. It is good to meet you, despite the sad circumstances that bring you here. BPD teens can be a real challenge, to say the least. The good news is you have come to the right place for help and support. What is your biggest concern at this time? Sorry so for all that you have gone through. I would suggest getting yourself some counseling, if you haven't already. |
