Title: Tips for Encouraging Treatment Post by: Maniplus on April 15, 2019, 11:59:30 AM Hi all,
How would one (a friend) encourage a person with BPD to seek treatment? I tried to search on threads and article and didn't come up with anything. She occasionally asks to be taken to a mental hospital but then backs out and wants to just "hang out." She is seeing a psychiatrist now. I understand this is a tough decision / step for her. And pushing her would not work. Any tips for "encouraging" ? Title: Re: Tips for Encouraging Treatment Post by: once removed on April 15, 2019, 02:22:01 PM hi Maniplus, and welcome back!
is the friend you are asking about also your ex? Title: Re: Tips for Encouraging Treatment Post by: Maniplus on April 15, 2019, 05:10:10 PM So I'm no longer in contact with my ex. However, a mutual friend of ours is now trying to help the ex and I told her about my experience, what I have seen work and not work.
Last night, ex contacted this mutual friend and asked her to take her to a mental hospital - what is universally agreed among therapists needs to happen. In fact, I am no longer in contact with the ex because I was financially supporting the ex and therapists said that financial help should be contingent on her seeking treatment. When I stopped, our connection stopped. So anyway, this mutual friend wants to know what she can do to encourage her to check in to a mental hospital as ex herself seems hesitant / moody about it. |
