Title: Our older son, now 25, has anti-social personality disorder
Post by: Kiss on April 26, 2019, 01:27:40 PM
Wow, I feel blessed to have found this site and the incredible insights I've just read on this subject of parent's and our tendency to feel at fault.  I'm a 58 yr old male, married for 28 yrs, my wife and I raised 2 boys (now young men).  Our older son, now 25, has anti-social personality disorder, and a strong propensity for drug/alcohol abuse and high risk taking behavior.  He has served about 3 years in prison and is currently on probation.  Our younger son, age 24 is just finishing up his Master's from BU, has a steady live-in gf and a job he loves.  Go figure.  I do have a question:  is ASPD a form of PD or something else?
Best to all of you...

hi Kiss,

I do have a question:  is ASPD a form of PD or something else?

yes, ASPD is a personality disorder, characterized by some of the things you named. we have a great deal more information on ASPD as a diagnosis here: https://bpdfamily.com/content/antisocial-personality-disorder

what led to him being in prison? how is probation going?
