Title: Help My daughter is coming home from residential treatment. Post by: anner on May 16, 2019, 10:58:21 AM :help: my daughter is 22 and will be coming home from her first residental treatment stay. she went in voluntary after a weak suicide attempt that landed her in a general pysch ward. from there she went to this res treatment for twenty days where she has been diagnosed with BPD , ptsd and major depressive disorder. all no surprises to us. so now she wants to come home to stay. or at least to visit. She is in the process of finishing school and lives in a rental 1.5 hours away. we are trying to get her to be more . independant.

Title: Re: Help My daughter is coming home from residential treatment. Post by: FaithHopeLove on May 16, 2019, 11:51:38 AM Hello, Anner,
I am happy to meet you and sad for the circumstances. You have come to the right place for help and support. You say your daughter is in the process of finishing school, which I take to mean college. It is great she is able to do that given all she has on her plate in terms of mental health challenges. How do you feel about the prospect of her moving back "home" with you? Would it be good for her? How about for you? What are the other alternatives? We are all rooting for you. Please keep us updated on how everything works out. If you're worried about her coming home and overstaying, maybe you can make sure that she brings limited items with her, and that she doesn't get too comfortable? How about temporarily setting her up in one of those limited-stay apartments? She probably really needs your help right now, but yeah, I can agree with your desire for her long-term independence. Do you have someone supporting you emotionally right now? That's important as well. Take care, and let us know how things are going.
