Title: Lifting spirits - What are you grateful for?
Post by: HappyChappy on July 11, 2019, 04:58:48 AM
A technique to lift spirits is to repeat every day things you are grateful for. Many religious groups do this, so its tried and tested. I’ll start: I’m grateful for the kindness of strangers, for those with empathy and for this forum and the excellent team that runs it, which has helped me immensely. Oh and also Catherine Zeta-Jones.

I'm grateful for my friends (both here and in the real world), my partner and our kids, our new house (it's purple my favorite color!), the summertime, cherry pie, quilts... and Jason Mamoa

Hi HappyC!  I love it when you visit with us.

I am grateful for my ability to laugh at just about anything.  I am grateful that I am safe and the people now in my life are loving and supportive now.  And I am grateful that I am still able to learn new things even at 53.

What a great reminder HC,  Something I have been forgetting to do lately...

I am grateful for my job and the people I work with, my health, my new grill that I just put together tonight, my supportive friends, my horse, I have a roof over my head, music, good food to eat, lakes to visit, and parks to visit.  Oh and flowers!

Great thread, HC!  Man, I’m grateful for a lot. My Son and the time we have together, my friends/family, my friends/family here, freedom of choice, self awareness and the understanding that I can take control of my own life. Much more, but a good exercise nonetheless.

Today I am grateful for a friend who lives near me and who is not afraid to express their affection and love for me.  I don't see them often, but when I do it is a great thing.

I know I sound vague so I will explain.  This person is my neighbor Maggie, who is 88 years old and feisty as hell.  She is also fun, caring, stubborn and a great friend.  We watch out for each other.

I’m grateful for Harri, JNChell and Panda good to see you all again. Maya L and Tsultan nice of you to drop in.

I’m also grateful for cricket, England are the new World champions. We have a habit of inventing games we can’t win at and this is the first world cup we’ve won. .

I'm thankful for my spouse, our home, my job, and my health. I'm also thankful that circumstances allow my husband and I to host exchange students. Our next student arrives in just a couple weeks, and I am so excited to meet her and watch her grow over the coming year!

Hi HappyC!     I too am grateful for all of the friends and people I have come to know here on this board.  You are all helping me by sharing accepting me and offering new perspectives where the old ones were quite dark and dingy.

sklamath, having an exchange student is a wonderful thing!  A friend of mine and her husband used to do that and everyone learned and thrived.

Today I am grateful for Dr. Who (the new one).  Yep, it is a sit on the couch, post some and watch Dr. Who episodes sort of day here.  Good stuff.

Harri, I too have a friendship with a woman in her later 60's she and her husband will invite me over to their house for Saturday hot dog night once in awhile and we just love to laugh together. Her husband makes a great salad to go with those hot dogs too.  I am grateful for that.  Stuff like that makes my heart feel full.

Happy C I am also grateful for the safe place that this board has offered me ( getting a bit choked up ), to be able to share and let go of stuff that nobody else understands except for the people here on this board.  Your posts included. I forget sometimes what a gift this board was during my struggles to find answers to all the crazy stuff that was happening when I couldn't understand it.

Yeah cricket!  I have no clue what the game is about but I like the name.  You guys are good at making names for games.    Good for you guys winning your first world cup!

Grateful that my friend found me a place that I might find a way to successfully interact with my sister.

Grateful that I get to spend a time with my in-laws. Get to know them. Take my mother-in-law to Joann’s for fun classes.

Happy to be having a good day.

I once read that feeling gratitude for what you have is a key characteristic of happy people. From my experience, some of the people I have met from all over the world who have the most difficult lives and/or are going through the most challenging times, place a high priority on what is important to emphasize in the moment and going forward. I am grateful to know that I when I am feeling down that looking at what I am grateful for can really help me to feel better and help me to make decisions that are in the best interests of nearly everyone.

I'm always grateful for my son.

Lately, he has been on a self-improvement kick.  He has a history of depression and social anxiety (alcoholic dad/co dependent mom).  He is working on himself...making a real effort to have conversations with people.  He has joined some meet up groups and has taken a serious interest in his look.  I'm proud of him for pushing through his fear that is a difficult thing to do, no doubt about it.   But between you and me he is also cracking me up (on the inside) I'm taking it all very serious on the outside and being as supportive as I can (going clothes shopping next weekend) but gotta say it is funny having conversations about teeth whitening, cologne, how oily his skin is, researching where to get the best haircut in town, he even sat down with me and we watched an episode of "Queer Eye" for the fashion tips from Tan.

I love him as he is and will love the new him too.

Love the slow cooker Harri!

I am grateful for my husband, for my two adult children who we so enjoy spending time with whenever we are able to get together, for this site and message board that I just discovered a few days ago, and for my new heat pump!  I am also grateful for humour and laughter.

Penny123 great news you’ve got a second chance.

I’m grateful its Friday ! Taking the kids on lazer quest over the weekend. We’re undefeated (It’s our first time).
