Title: I don’t know how to help him Post by: Smh924 on February 22, 2020, 09:32:25 PM I’m new here and new to BPD. My adult son, 28, has just recently been diagnosed as having BPD. A big problem is he has no insurance because he cannot hold down a job and he’s too old to be put on my policy. Does anyone have advice on how to go forth to pay for meds or therapy? I’m the only family member left that has anything to do with him (dad, grandparents, etc) no longer have a relationship with him due to his bouts of anger and terrorizing them, and I cannot afford any more bills. He has been living with me and I’m at the end of my rope. He needs help but I don’t know how to help him when I don’t have extra money.

I want to welcome you to BPDFamily. I am glad you are reaching out for support and advice here. What led to your son being diagnosed now? Did anything specific happen recently leading to him now getting diagnosed? It is unfortunate that he has no insurance now. Would be great if he could get (or keep getting) treatment. Has he (in the past) ever received any kind of targeted treatment for his issues? Do you feel like your son acknowledges and accepts his BPD diagnosis? I don't know where you are but if you are in the United States and your sons income is low you may want to consider Medicaid. Is that an option?
