Title: Confirmation: it was a moment of relief but it's also hard to accept.

Hi,

I am officially new to the BPD family. I have long thought that my mom had traits of a person with BPD or Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I started my own treatment last year and was diagnosed with Bipolar 2, and now PTSD. Through therapy my doctor has reason to believe that my mom has all the markers for BPD w/narcissism.
It was a moment of relief but it's also hard to accept. Despite all the internal scars, and validation. It's another person agreeing and seeing that you lost your parent,. maybe both. They were not, are not, and will not albe to function in a healthy relationship. I feel like part of this is a mourning and acceptance. It's also part of the abuse cycle.

Hi and *welcome*

It is great that you are reaching out for support.  So many of us are in similar situations with our family and with discovering that a family member(s) may have BPD.  Acceptance and grieving that knowledge can take time and work.  The good news is that you have found a place where we get that and some of us are going through the same process and others have already been through it and got to a better place.  And yes, it does get better.

I hope you settle in and read and jump into other threads and post.  We all work together and support each other here.  Share more when you feel like it.  In the meantime, check out the links tacked to the top of this board.  Especially the Survivor to Thriver Program (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=331826.0).  A lot of us find ourselves at the beginning of the guide and can use it as a stepping stone to finding areas we need to heal.  Healing is not linear or a step by step process as I am sure you know.

Again, welcome.
