Title: forgetfulness
Post by: commongarden on February 29, 2020, 03:03:55 PM
My SO can be terribly forgetful.  He is extremely busy with his job.  I am extremely busy with my job.  He promised to take care of my dog when I was out of town for 2 days.  I thought we had communicated well. He was good the first day but forgot the second day.

He said he didn't know I was going to be gone for 2 days.  But I know we went over it several times.  He rushed over and took care of my dog when he realized what had happened.  He tried to tell me I didn't give him the correct information.

I have noticed he has forgotten things before--not this important.  Is this typical of BPD? How do I handle it?  It doesn't seem malicious but becomes annoying.

I wouldn't say this type of forgetting is part of BPD.

You ask how to handle situations like this?  I would say when it is important, like taking care of your dog, you should make other arrangements.  He is not dependable in that area.  You can also write things down for him depending on what the task is.

What other examples do you have?  Is there a pattern you can see?
