Title: Son's dog got hit by a car
Post by: FaithHopeLove on March 02, 2020, 11:37:36 PM
We just got a phone call that our son's dog was hit by a car. The vet bill is over $1,000 son says he has the money but needs to sell some stocks first which will take 3 days. Meanwhile he wants to borrow the money from us. Normally I would say no but this dog is so important to him I just don't have the heart to do that. Am I nuts?

Am I nuts?

No you're not! You're Faith, Hope and Love and wanting to do something for a family pet is an act out of love  Wanting to do this because how much the dog means to your son, is also an act out of love.

How old is the dog? How long has your son had this dog?

Has the dog already been treated by the vet or is the $1,000 how much it likely would cost to get the dog treated?

No your not nuts. Pets are our family in good times and bad.  If you can afford it.

Pay the vet directly and just know you may not see a penny back so it’s a gift to a beloved pet. Do it with a giving heart and zero expectations, but pay Vet don’t hand cash to son.

The dog is new to my son and his gf.  It is an emotional support animal. The people who hit him paid half. It wasn't so bad. Son is in crisis mode though. Not sure if it was the dog or his ongoing drug use or upcoming court date or all of the above.

You're not nuts. I would absolutely have done it too. My pets are part of the family. I'm glad the people who hit the dog paid half. And I like Peacemom's suggestion of paying the vet directly.

It must have been very upsetting to your son, and our BPD sons/daughters feel everything so intensely. I'm sure with everything else, it must have felt unbearable to him. I know my daughter would react that way. Much smaller situations than that can send her into crisis mode.

I hope the dog heals easily and quickly and your son is able to calm his emotions.
