Title: Daughter I need help
Post by: Dmae on March 28, 2020, 07:33:03 AM
Hi, My daughter who is 25, has been going downhill for about 3 months.  She is an RN had a great job, and is now is a psych hospital for the second time in 2 months.  He father and I don’t want to be part of the problem but honestly don’t know what to do or where to get help.  She is suicidal, and has had 2 very serious suicide attempts 7 years ago.  One was flipping her car on a highway. She says she won’t try again but it hanges over our heads.  Any suggestions?

Hello Dmae and welcome

I'm so sorry your daughter is in crisis. I'm glad you have joined us, reached out for support, parents here understand, you are not alone.

Dmae, your daughter was doing well, do you know what led to  her recently going downhill? Has she had previous treatment, learnt coping skills, DBT?

She was doing fine, your right.  I’m thinking it was a boyfriend that wasn’t treating her the way she wanted.  I never cared for him, seemed to always want to prove he was smarter than everyone.  She has broke up with him but then just stared drinking and hanging out with a new guy who does drugs. Great.  The hospital wants to send her to a rehab center.  I really can’t see her quitting drinking.  After reading posts on here I am really discouraged, does anyone get better?

The break of a relationship can be painful.

I understand your worry of alcohol, my DD (dear daughter) also self medicated with alcohol to take away the emotional pain. She very rarely drinks now, she recognises it is dangerous for her. How has your DD received the offer of help, rehab? Is there offer of DBT too?

Yes, my DD is in remission. She is managing her BPD thanks to the DBT skills she learnt.

There is hope.

Thank you so much for the encouragement.  I’m hoping she can get into a dual diagnostic center.  She has had DBT therapy but she really needs to use what she has learned.
