My ex girlfriend is suicidal and despite everything I try, doesn't want to engage in therapy, reach out, take medication etc. She has made arrangements with someone on a suicide forum to kill herself and I believe this will happen imminently. I'm short of options and feel enforced hospitalisation may be my only choice. However when her dad tried this in the US, it only made things worse. She hated the loss of control, met lots of people in their 50s who told her she should kill herself now, rather than go through any more pain and was given absolutely no therapy or help. After four days, despite knowing that she lies to the doctors, they let her out. It made her more suicidal. She is now in the UK. I would like to know if anyone has any experience of enforced hospitalisation and whether it helped? Is help offered inside these places? Or are people just thrown out on the street as quickly as possible, once their symptoms are deemed to have faded enough. Any advice is gratefully received. She's in London. If I were you I'd call a Mental Help phone line to talk to someone though, at least for your own sanity. Also be fair on yourself because you might not be able to do much with someone who frequently threatens suicide.
