Title: Just joined, saying Hello
Post by: FSU61 on August 05, 2020, 01:10:37 AM
My daughter is downstairs and I’ve just gone to bed. She’s building up to her special crisis, telling me her thoughts on my inability to be a caretaker.
Long story but basically I repeated my offer to “be there” for an upcoming surgery but she kept repeating my shortcomings so I repeated my “I want to be here for you” and she refuses to accept that.
Then I told her that I genuinely mean it. And it’s her responsibility to deal with her feelings about that. (She wants to reject my statement).
I haven’t read any posts here so this is just putting down what happened moments ago.

Hello FSU61

Welcome. Sorry to hear this, how exhausting not be heard, rejecting your offer to be there for her.

Are you familiar with the tool S.E.T?  It may be helpful for what you describe, with her rejecting your truth, what do you think? 1.16 - Communicate with S.E.T. (Support, Empathy and Truth)  (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=143695.0)

Glad you found and joined us.
