Title: How to cope
Post by: CassidysMom on August 10, 2020, 07:27:33 PM
This is my first post. I’ve been living with my daughter that’s been diagnosed with BPD for 5 yrs now. She’s 23 and has made numerous suicide attempts with medications never taking the entire amount just enough to get attention. She’s on medications but pot smoking is the problem as well as ecstasy. I’m tired of the lies and threats of suicide. It keeps me depressed and anxious. Don’t I deserve a happy life? Am I a bad parent for giving up?

Yes you deserve a happy life. Letting go and giving up are not the same thing. You can allow your daughter to experience the consequences for her actions - letting go - yet keep communication open (if she allows it). When she wants help you can be there for her. I'm struggling to do the same with my 37 year old daughter. It's not easy.
