Title: Experience of EMDR?
Post by: Carruthers on September 28, 2020, 01:57:49 PM
I am trying to persuade my BPDH to try EMDR as it's meant to be very good for complex PTSD, which is now being identified as a big factor in BPD.  Does anyone here have any experience of it, good or bad, with their BPD partners?  I'd be really interested in knowing if it's effective.

I’ve done EMDR, but I don’t have BPD.  It was sldestabilizing and really rough.  The days after EMDR sessions, I would feel like I had been in a car accident.

After several sessions, I switched to somatic therapy.  It’s also good for treating cPTSD, but is gentler.  It does take longer.

FWIW, I would have great pause about engaging in therapy that could destabilize a BPD, even in the short run during the pandemic.

Also, if your pwBPD isn’t the one seeking out therapy, I’d also have pause here.  They have to want it and want to stick through it for it to be a valuable investment of time and money.
