Title: How do I help my daughter to get help
Post by: pusmd on October 19, 2020, 02:15:58 PM
My daughter, 37, is a functioning person, but she clearly has BPD. She has violent irrational-appearing fits of anger at my wife and me as well as her sisters.  She has a long history of being fired from jobs where she felt she was innovative and effective.  Her firings have all had to do with relationships with other employees. She is very bright, has a college degree in two subjects, but she works at a menial job. Her symptoms have worsened over the years.  She has no insight, it appears, into her problem.  Does anyone have any ideas of how to steer such a person to understand that she needs help?

Welcome!
Does your daughter live with you? It is good she has a job, no matter if menial.    The first step is to start with you;The best way to take care of an adult child is to take care of you .   There are suggested readings here on how you can try to guide an adult child to get help :https://bpdfamily.com/content/how-to-get-borderline-into-therapy
However, the ultimate decision will be up to your daughter.  Xavier Amador's book ( It is also a suggested reading ) could give some pointers.  I would also suggest reading up on BPD , " Stop Walking on Eggshells" is a good one to start with.
