Title: My DD Post by: MamaSun on November 08, 2020, 05:47:43 PM My 15 yo DD has struggled with suicidal behaviors, self-harm, anxiety and depression. Every therapist or psychiatrist that works with her says she shows many of the characteristics of BPD. I am told that she will not get that dx as a teen.
After 2 years and 20 acute admissions, two sessions of IOP and one attempted YPH, we have made the very difficult decision to try residential treatment. The facility is 4 hours away from our home and they currently have a no visitor policy due to COVID. I’m terrified! We chose this particular treatment center because they offer prolonged exposure DBT. Any success stories out there with DBT or residential treatment? I need some hope right now! You must be exhausted. Is your daughter resisting treatment or looking forward to this inpatient experience? You have found a safe place to discuss this. I'll check back later for your response. Best, FF Title: Re: My DD Post by: Swimmy55 on November 09, 2020, 10:45:20 PM Welcome.
You can click onto my name to get my previous posts/backstory ( or anyone's name here for that matter) . My son was in residential treatment as a teen. While it punched me in the gut having him go , I do credit that time for providing stability, routine in his life as he was completely raging and out of control. As a result, that time was a building block for him to push through life and graduate high school and college. While he is very sick and struggling now, as an adult, he did have a successful few years ( with some crises along the way). Without the residential he would have been that much more worse. |
