please help  me figure out what all the dd, dh, etc mean... where can I find the meanings?  thanks!

But the ones you mentioned, the first "D" means "Dear", the 2nd "D"= "daughter", "H"= "husband".

Dd - dear daughter
Dh - dear husband, or, if you're feeling particularly uncharitable, it could have another meaning

...and since you're bound to ask, yes we do often get confused thinking somebody's talking about their son-in-law only to discover it's their sister-in-law :)
