Title: Seeking a great therapist experienced in CBT Post by: Uvitachica on February 28, 2021, 09:26:54 PM Hi,
I'm looking for a therapist experienced with BPD and NPD. I believe I grew up with a mother who suffers from BPD but has never been diagnosed and I recently ended a relationship with someone who I believe suffers from NPD but again not diagnosed. I'm not trying to self-diagnose, these are just my observations and predictions in order to better understand myself. I'm seeking help because I'm tired of being in these toxic relationships, I'm possibly co-dependent, and I'm losing confidence in myself and in my ability to find a stable and healthy relationship because of past childhood trauma that hasn't been released or healed. Should I be searching for CBT therapists? I tried abct.org but 0 results came up. I'm wondering if anyone here is familiar with a website where I can search therapists experienced in these mental illnesses to help me! Thank you! Psychology Today has a search engine (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists) that allows you to filter by location, specializations, type of insurance the therapist takes, etc. It sounds like a trauma informed therapist might be helpful for you. You mention possible codependency on your part. I have spoken with the mother of a daughter with severe BPD who found Codependents Anonymous (https://coda.org/) extremely helpful for her own growth and healing. I attended one meeting some time back and did not have the same experience. But each group has its own personality. So it may or may not be useful for you. You have been through a lot. I wish you the best of luck in your journey towards self-understanding and health. |
