Title: Experience with DBT?
Post by: emstra on March 02, 2021, 10:59:46 PM
I am married to a woman who likely has BPD. I’ve suspected it for years, but only recently started seeing a couples therapist with expertise treating BPD. Last week, our couples therapist explained BPD to us and suggested DBT therapy and noted how my spouse has behavior patterns and coping mechanisms that are often described as BPD. The therapist has normalized my spouse’s behavior so we can have real “unmasked” conversations for the first time.  These developments make me so hopeful, but I’m also feeling despair. I feel like I’ve run a marathon to get to this point and I’m exhausted just when there’s a promise of effective treatment (or at least honest communication). I feel like I can’t continue to bear the lack of understanding and empathy.  Does anyone have experience with this getting much better with DBT?
