Title: Looking for support Post by: StrugglingThru on April 08, 2021, 03:42:09 PM Trying to find a good support group for myself and husband. Having a 19yo with bpd is harrrrrd. Feeling powerless to help her. Worried for her safety. Scared. Sad. Alone with all these feelings.
Title: Re: Looking for support Post by: Rebbeca on April 09, 2021, 02:16:56 AM Hi I’m new to this site. Like you looking to find ways to help the daughter I love.
Hopefully this will make a difference to us, knowing others share our experiences. I’ve read books. I have been speaking to a psychologist for 2 years, to help me help my daughter. One minute my daughter loves and needs me. The next she tells me I don’t listen, care or understand. Even though most of my time is spent listening and trying to find ways to help. Is it like that for you? Rebbeca Title: Re: Looking for support Post by: Mama Goose on April 09, 2021, 02:22:05 PM I am new to BPD Family but I wanted to share a fabulous resource. I teach a wonderful curriculum called Family Connections for those of us that love someone struggling with emotional dysregulation. The class is FREE and requires 12 weeks to get through the 6 modules (Introduction, Family Education, Relationship Mindfulness Skills, Family Environment Skills, Validation Skills and Problem Management). My classes often meet once a week for 2 hours per session. We teach some skills from Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mentalization. The course was created by Dr. Perry Hoffman, who recently passed away, and Dr. Alan Fruzzetti who runs the BPD Boys unit at McLean Medical Center/Harvard.
Please look up the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder (NEABPD) to find out how to sign up for the free class (called Family Connections). Should you not be ready to commit to a class the sight also have a great deal of resources. (www.borderlinepersonalitydisorder.org) This class saved my families livelihood. Perhaps it can offer some hope, tools and acquaintances to make walking this path less painful. Mama Goose |
