Title: Looking for resources and support - BPD sibling
Post by: JeffT99 on May 04, 2021, 06:40:45 AM
I grew up in a chaotic home with an adopted BPD sibling. I’ve come to realize I have a lot of scars and bad habits as a result. (Two awful adult BPD relationships, codependent tendencies, etc). As I work to understand these things — and ensure a continued healthy and happy marriage now in middle age — I am frustrated by the lack of resources and information and hoping someone can point me toward better information. Most of what I have seen assumes a parent with either BPD/NPD or a substance issue. My chaotic home was created by an older sibling. My parents did the best they could. But the result was me at a young age (a very sensitive empathetic kid) left feeling the need to emotionally take care of my parents. Is there any kind of book or website someone can refer me to? I’ve finally begun to consider the effects of my family dynamics as a kid and the impact it’s had on my adult life. But I just don’t see the resources that fit my situation.

Welcome!  Can you be more specific what kinds of resources you are looking for?  Then maybe we can tailor some ideas for your situation.

When you log on to the site, you can scroll down (below the list of boards) to community based knowledge base, and you will find suggestions for resources there as well.

On a personal level, I have a meditation app I use, I'm working my way through a CBT workbook (which helps me even though it's my mom with uBPD), I see a clinical counsellor, and I've read a lot of books.  Have you read any books you have found helpful yet?
