Title: My son was recently diagnosed Post by: Heavy hearted on May 27, 2021, 11:06:31 PM My son was recently diagnosed with BPD. While this has given my husband, daughter and I a lot of clarity when it comes to my son, it has been extremely stressful and overwhelming. He currently has a protection order against him, filed by his girlfriend’s mom (they are both minors) for domestic violence. He still believes he will be with her when it’s over and won’t listen to anyone in his life that tells him how toxic their relationship is. His outbursts of anger are just getting worse. He’s beginning DBT with his counselor next week. I just feel so sad and hopeless! Is he going to get better or is this just our life now?

It'll never be entirely gone, but as long as you can keep him out of prison and not a slave to addictions, then I'd say the chances of him being "out of control" by 28 are probably only 10-20%. I'd say having started DBT so early also definitely improves your odds rather drastically.
