Title: College DD is convinced she has BPD ...what to do next Post by: Bentley on May 29, 2021, 06:53:40 AM Hi there - Hope everyone out there is doing ok today. This is my first post and seeking advice.
My DD is home from her freshman year of college and convinced that she has BPD. She has had a lots of struggles with depression and anxiety since her sophomore year of high school. She attempted suicide at 16 and has been in a psychiatric facility twice (10 day stays). She really did well at a respected OOS college this year and we didn’t have any mental health crises (shocking). She wasn’t in therapy, but she did meet with her psychiatrist at home via zoom. She’s been home a month and, we are back to her Pre college destructive mental state. She is also drinking heavily and smoking a lot of pot (from what I can tell). She routinely stays out all night, sleeps til early afternoon and then speeds afternoon at pool. She needs to find a summer job, but has made zero attempt. When I read the symptoms of BPD, she does have many of them, but not all. She is seeing her psychiatrist on Monday to discuss BPD. Do you all have any advice for someone that is just beginning to navigate BPD/substance abuse disorder with a loved one? . Thank you Title: Re: College DD is convinced she has BPD ...what to do next Post by: pursuingJoy on June 01, 2021, 12:36:50 PM We're here to listen and you're in good company. Many people here can relate to these behaviors.
It's positive that she's seeking a diagnosis. Hopefully this also means she'll be open to treatment. From my understanding, BPD is treatable. Maybe she'll stabilize again once she goes back to campus? Keep us posted and hang in there Bentley. One day at a time! |
