Title: Looking for a good residential treatment facility
Post by: DJ222 on June 28, 2021, 09:38:37 PM
Has anyone had success with a residential treatment facility? We are looking for treatment for our 20-yr-old daughter and haven't been able to find a place with a good reputation and the right kind of care.  Thanks in advance.

Hey DJ222, welcome. Sorry for what brings you here -- I'm sure you and your family have been through the wringer -- and glad you found us.

Given that your D is an adult, is she open to treatment, or resistant? Do you have any kind of guardianship/conservatorship, or is she now "calling the shots" as a legal adult?

Also, does she have any comorbid issues (substance abuse, etc)?

I know there have been discussions about residential on this board. I'm sorry I can't remember the thread, but other members can chime in with the link if they remember.

McLean Hospital (I think?) often gets discussed.

I suspect you could call one of the "big names" and see if they could recommend other places that fit your D's needs better. Sort of like when you're hiring a lawyer, and you say "here's the deal, here is the conflict, if you were in my shoes, who would you want to represent you"? And they say Well, not my area of expertise, so I'd go with Other Person.

It could be that McLean (or wherever) is indeed "the best", but if not, they may be able to point you to somewhere more specific.

Hope this helps for starters;

Probably best to share if there are any limitations in regard to money & proximity.  Most people need to deal with an insurance company.

My son in 2009 was in RICA in Baltimore as a teen.

Thanks for your input.  We are planning to pay ourselves since we don't have insurance.  We know how expensive it can be but are prepared to do what it takes to help our daughter.  We have looked at the threads here and can only find places that treat teens.  Can't find a place that comes highly recommended other than Mclean which we are investigating.  Does anyone have a success story to share about a young adult?

My son went to one but I wouldn’t recommend for her age.  And I’m not too impressed with actual dbt time he spent.  Many  geared to CBT and drug detox.   I have heard good things about McLean too specifically for bpt .  If your investing in this as a option because costs are high - then id shoot for the best. Try McLean. . .

Wish you well.
