Title: Does this sound like a BPD thing?
Post by: marv1995 on July 27, 2021, 09:43:03 AM
I don't know if I've mentioned in my other posts, but my partner is diagnosed bipolar 2. He's not diagnosed BPD, but I highly suspect it. One day I was over at his mom's house and his mom was on the phone. When she got off he started yelling at her for not spending time with him or paying attention to him. I took him in another room to try and calm him down. I asked him if his mom being on the phone instead of talking to him made him feel abandoned and he said yes and then just started bawling his eyes out in my arms, saying "Why don't my parents want to spend time with me? What's wrong with me?" It absolutely broke my heart. Just wondering if this could be a BPD thing. Obviously someone without BPD would not react that way to their mom being on the phone.

Certainly that is an example of unstable emotional response. BPD and bipolar can share some similarities. BPD involves far more rapid cycling of emotions than bipolar and cannot be effectively treated with medication as bipolar can.

I was talking to my therapist today and telling her some is the things he does and she asked “has he been diagnosed with BPD? Because that’s what it sounds like he has.” I can deal with the emotions, what wears away at me is him constantly ending the relationship :(
