Title: Is there some sort of retreat available for my daughter to go and stay at? Help
Post by: Bellabella on August 12, 2021, 05:08:42 PM
Hi there. My 22 year old daughter has been diagnosed with BPD.. she received counselling and some group counselling. At the time it seemed to help her quite a lot. Once her funding was finished.. oops counselling was finished.. they pronounced her ‘in remission’ and waved her bye bye. Sadly over the past Covid year my daughter appears to have relapsed really badly!  She’s not coping well.. is very self obsessed and depressed and can’t seem to motivate herself to use her ‘coping strategies’. At times I’m at the very end of my tether!  I have read up and joined groups in order to understand better. But, I’m dealing with cancer and undergoing treatment.. which can’t help my daughter either. I’m really at a loss as to what help is available for her. She really really needs support and a break.. are there any respite places she could go to?  What help can I look for fit her. She’s an adult so it’s difficult for me to step in. But I so need her to receive some help. Any advice or suggestions please? Xxx

Hi Bellabella  :hi:

Welcome to our forums. I hope you find it as supportive and helpful as I, and many others, do.

It's great that your daughter was helped by counselling and that she learned some coping strategies. When did treatment end? I think many folks who struggle had a tough time during the past year.

As for a retreat, nothing comes directly to mind, sorry. But I have a faint memory of a parent posting their experience with residential treatment for their child. I'll see if I can find it and come back and link it here.

How are you coping? It can't be easy navigating your treatment and supporting your daughter.

I'm glad you posted. There are many parents here who are in similar situations and looking for answers. Let's talk this out and see if we can come up with some answers together.
