Title: New Member Post by: Cocolynn88 on August 18, 2021, 05:24:33 PM Just wanted to introduce myself, this forum was recommended through "Stop Walking on Eggshells." I, at 33 years old am finally finding some freedom from and answers about my mother, who is not diagnosed but is very clearly borderline. I am currently going through EMDR therapy to help recover and move through what I have been through having her as my mother. At 33 years old I am finally just understanding why I am the way I am, and am hoping to change and rebuild.

Welcome to this group. My Mom is also BPD and as a result, I suffered from childhood trauma as well. I have always been fascinated with EMDR therapy. I used to have nightmares as an adult, almost every night, that my parent's were trying to kill me in the house I grew up in. Sometimes it was in my bedroom, sometimes a different part of the house. The dream was different every time but in each dream my Mom and Dad were both there and one of them (usually my Dad) was going to kill me, usually with a gun. I have read that EMDR is good for this type of trauma, although admittedly I have never tried it. Hypnotherapy over 12 years ago ended the nightmares for me. Please share more if you like, I want you to know that it does get better and thankfully there is lots of help for people like us now. b Title: Re: New Member Post by: Methuen on August 21, 2021, 09:40:11 PM Welcome Cocolynn88 :hi:
When you are ready, sharing a little story will give us a focus for how we can support you. Like you, I started with the eggshell book, which acted like a springboard to much other reading, learning, analysis, and reflection. It has all been helpful. I have no experience with EMDR, although others on this site have found it extremely helpful. Beatricex, I am interested in your nightmares. I have struggled with really graphic, disturbing, and violent nightmares since I was a little girl. I am almost 60 now. I don't read graphic or violent or horror books, and I have never watched a movie or TV show that has anything dark in it, because I simply can't handle it. It is a complete mystery where the nightmares come from. Thankfully, they don't happen as often now as they did even 5 years ago. When you say hypnotherapy ended them 12 years ago for you, can you share a little more about your treatment experience? Not even one since then? |
