Title: For UNDIAGNOSED husband wBPD,, UNINSURED, what is the first step?

 :help:
 :hi:
Hello again everyone..

I have been married for 2 years to my husband who I suspect has undiagnosed BPD.  We have had some mighty battles, and have been physically separated for the last year, due to these battles.  When we first separated, he had behaved in a way that made me truly, honestly believe that we were going to get a divorce.  I removed him from my health insurance plan for that reason, as we weren't even speaking and there was a protection order in place to protect me from his behavior.

Fast forward a year.  I have been in weekly therapy, doing EMDR for trauma.  And husband and I are considering reconciling and me moving back into our home.  He has been doing some reading of books that I have laying around about BPD.  He read "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me" and he thinks that the symptoms sound a whole lot like him, and what goes on in his mind.  Thank goodness for that.  Now... he has been uninsured and would like to find a diagnosis, help and DBT if necessary.

Which direction should I point him in for the uninsured.  I can't put him back on my plan until the first of Jan 2022.

Does anyone have any ideas in this group?  is there any hope?

If in the US, look into the (ACA) affordable care act. I’m not sure if you can only get it during open enrollment. You have to make Lee’s than a certain amount to qualify. If he is not working, then I think he could get Medicaid. If he is working and makes enough money, then he can probably join most health insurance plans. If it is couples therapy, your insurance might cover it.

Good luck!

He is not working anything that has consistent income... unfortunately.  And he does not qualify for medicaid.  We are really in a bad spot.  It would be highly unfair for my therapist to now- after a year of seeing me weekly- take us on as a couple.  I guess my question was directed more toward things like... are there any groups or preliminary things he can do to help himself before he gets insurance?

Hey Concerned2020, not sure if you've seen the stuff NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) has yet:

https://nami.org/Support-Education/Mental-Health-Education/NAMI-Peer-to-Peer

they describe it as "a free, eight-session educational program for adults with mental health conditions who are looking to better understand themselves and their recovery".

Hope that can point you guys in a positive direction;
