Title: Ambulance-chasing lawyer Post by: NonnyMouse on January 27, 2022, 03:58:55 PM UBPDw has, like so many, been threatening divorce for over a decade. But 18 months ago she contacted a lawyer for the first time.
She had several phone consultations (I was in another part of the house each time, and she didn't keep it secret that that was what she was doing!) Meanwhile I was working like crazy on divorce-busting techniques, and later SET and not JADEing, etc. And so I managed to stabilize the relationship. (She only talks divorce in extreme situations now.) However, this lawyer a) wanted my wife to exaggerate marital tales and b) charged nearly $30,000! These she told me. Both of these came as a shock to my uBPDw, and she put a brake on the divorce process. (Coinciding with my modified behavior, and thus almost zero arguments.) But this lawyer has contacted my uBPDw recently "to see how she is doing." My suspicion is that the story fabrication and the $$$ means that the lawyer is, er, lacking in morals, and would like nothing better than a juicy divorce. This obviously reminds my w about the divorce. (Being BPD, I think she can "forget" about the divorce when not triggered.) So now my w, in a untriggered state, is being reminded, something I am sure never to do. (Never bring up such topics involuntarily, nothing good can come of it!) This cannot be good. But there is nothing I can do. I can't complain to any governing body for lawyers because a) she is undiagnosed and b) my uBPDw will hear about it and that will be game over. I really, really, hate lawyers. |
