Title: Anyone try family therapy?
Post by: Couscous on September 05, 2022, 03:23:35 PM
I am curious to hear from anyone here who has tried family therapy and/or DBT family skills training. If so, was it helpful or not?

I found a webinar about this topic which I thought was interesting:

We tried family therapy. I'm sorry to say that it didn't work as my son seemed to have no awareness of his own faults and blamed us for everything.

Hello, my husband and I tried working with a therapist. Our daughter met with him remotely, we met him in person.  It started out OK, but by the time we finished 4 sessions I was feeling really threatened. I made the mistake of sending our daughter a general amends letter. This idea backfired.
I think it gave my daughter the idea that I would admit to about anything! Not so! Anyway by the end of the 4 sessions, it became clear to me that the therapist was no longer
neutral. I think the therapist had been influenced by my daughter’s story. In a nutshell, my trust for the therapist
had disappeared. I doubt very much that in our situation
anything would have been resolved had we moved along.
Perhaps other people have had success, not us. I have been with 3 other therapists and none of them was knowledgeable
about BPD. Good luck to you!
